Ever since I was a child, I have been passionate about photography – the feel, the smell, the magical weirdness of these little machines. I was 10 when I was given my first ‘proper’ camera – a vintage 1950s Kalimar B-3 that my brother found at a Surrey jumble sale. I still have it in a drawer, with its crazy colored lollipop filters which I used endlessly to turn landscapes all shades.

When I was 13 – on winning a Geography prize I think – my father gave me a Praktica MTL-5B, built like a tank. We had adventures in black and white and wide angle. At 16 – possibly for passing some O levels – the rewards of rites of passage - I graduated to the classic Pentax K 1000.

Now I use a Canon Digital SLR and rather lazily my iPhone, which in its defence takes rather good images. It particularly loves clouds.
